The following Contest is intended for viewing and participation in the United States and Canada only (excluding Quebec ). Do not enter this Contest if you are not located within the U.S. or Canada .  

Void in Maryland , North Dakota , Vermont and where prohibited by law.

1. To enter, submit your own Katurran Odyssey Animal Drawing or Essay. Entries must consist of either your drawing of an animal from The Katurran Odyssey or develop your own story about one of the animals in The Katurran Odyssey that consists of 1000 words or less. All entriesmust be accompanied by a cover letter from the entrant’s parent or legal guardian. In the cover letter, the parent or legal guardian must grant Simon & Schuster Adult Publishing permission to use the entry as provided herein. The cover letter must contain the following permission language: “I [fill in parent or legal guardian’s name], the entrant’s parent or legal guardian hereby consent to Simon & Schuster, Inc’s use of my child’s entry as specified in the Official Rules for the Katurran Odyssey Animal Drawing or Essay Contest.” I acknowledge that neither Simon & Schuster nor the author and illustrator of Katurran Odyssey will pay any compensation for any such uses.” Illustrative drawing must be submitted on 8.5 x 11 inch paper and written essay must be submitted in English, typed, and double-line spaced. Sponsor is not responsible for late, lost, misdirected, illegible, incomplete, mutilated, damaged, misdelivered or postage-due entries. Entries are void if they are in whole or in part illegible, incomplete, or damaged. Entrant’s can enter both categories of the Contest, if they wish, but are limited to one entry per category .Mail your entry along with your name, telephone number, address, name of school, school address to: Simon & Schuster Adult Publishing, "The Katurran Odyssey Contest,” Online Marketing Department, 1230 Avenue of the Americas, 12th Floor, New York, NY 10020. Contest begins December 15, 2004. Entries must be postmarked by February 7, 2005 and received by February 14, 2005.

2. There will be two (2) Grand Prizes, one for best drawing and one for best story. Each Grand Prize winner will receive a 15-minute phone call with Terryl Whitlatch and David Michael Wieger, the creators and illustrators of The Katurran Odyssey, have their work featured along with Terryl Whitlatch and David Michael Wieger work’s in a Los Angeles art gallery, have their work featured on www.KaturranOdyssey.com and www.SimonSays.com, and will receive a personalized signed copy of The Katurran Odyssey by the creators and illustrators. Two (2) second place prizes will be awarded, one for the second place winner in the drawing category and one for the second place winner in the story category. Each second place winner will receive a 10-minute call with Terryl Whitlatch and David Michael Wieger, the creators and illustrators of The Katurran Odyssey and will receive a personalized signed copy of The Katurran Odyssey by the creators and illustrators. Two third place prizes will be awarded. The third place winners will receive a signed copy of the book by the creators and illustrators. [Total approximate retail value of prizes: [$179.70.] Limit one (1) prize per person.

3. The winners will be selected from all eligible entries received. For the drawing, entries will be judged on the basis of originality (70%), composition and use of space (30%). For the written essay, entries will be judged on the basis of originality (70%), composition and grammar (30%). Entries will be judged by creators and illustrators, Terryl Whitlatch and David Michael Wieger, authors of The Katurran Odyssey. The decisions of the judges with respect to the selection of the winners and in regard to all matters relating to this contest shall be final. Winners will be selected by March 14, 2005 and notified by mail by March 21, 2005. In the event that there is an insufficient number of entries received that meet the minimum standards determined by the judges, the Prizes will not be awarded. In the event any prize notification or prize is returned as undeliverable, an alternate winner will be selected.

4. The Contest is open to legal residents of the U.S. and Canada (excluding Quebec) who are, at the time of entry, between the ages of 6 and 18 years old. Employees and their immediate family members (or those with whom they are domiciled) of the Sponsor, its parent company, subsidiaries, divisions, related companies and their respective agencies and agents are ineligible. Void in Puerto Rico and wherever prohibited or restricted by law.

5. All entries must be original and the sole property of the entrant. Entries must not have previously won any awards. Please retain a copy of your submission. All entries and any copyrights therein become the property of Sponsor and will not be acknowledged or returned. By entering, entrants hereby transfer and assign all intellectual property rights (including, but not limited to, copyright and trademark) in and to their entry to Sponsor. By entering, entrants agree to abide by these rules and grant to Sponsor the right to edit, publish, display, promote, and otherwise use their entries without further permission, notice, or compensation.

6. By accepting the prize, each winner and his/her parent or legal guardian grants the Sponsor the right to use his/her name, likeness and entry (essay and/or drawing) for any advertising, promotion, trade or any other purpose without further compensation or permission, except where prohibited by law.

7. No cash substitution, transfers or assignments of prize allowed. In event of unavailability, Sponsor may substitute a prize of equal or greater value.

8. All taxes, if any, are the sole responsibility of the winner. Each winner’s parent or legal guardian on the winner’s behalf will be required to execute and return an Affidavit of Eligibility and a liability/Publicity/Rights Transfer Release and all other legal documents that the Sponsor may require within 15 days of attempted notification or an alternate winner may be selected.

9. By entering, entrants release Terryl Whitlatch, David Michael Wieger and the Sponsor and its parent company, subsidiaries, affiliates, divisions, advertising, production and promotion agencies from any and all liability for any loss, harm, damages, costs or expenses, including without limitation property damages, personal injury and/or death, arising out of participation in this contest, the acceptance, possession, use or misuse of the prize, claims based on publicity rights, defamation or invasion of privacy, merchandise delivery or the violation of any intellectual property rights, including copyright infringement and trademark infringement.

10. For the first names of the prize winners send a separate, stamped, self-addressed envelope by March 31, 2005 to Winners’ List, The Katurran Odyssey Contest, Simon & Schuster Adult Publishing, Online Marketing Department, 1230 Avenue of the Americas, 12 th Floor, New York, New York 10020.
